Checklist: questions to ask an EV charger installer
- ☐ What is your state electrical license number? (verify it yourself)
- ☐ Are you insured (liability + workers comp)?
- ☐ Will you pull the permit and be present for inspection?
- ☐ Did you do a load calculation? Do I really need a panel upgrade?
- ☐ Could a load-management device or smart splitter avoid an upgrade?
- ☐ Is the quote itemized: charger, labor, materials, permit, panel work? (Compare against typical ranges in our cost guide.)
- ☐ Does the price include the charger or labor only?
- ☐ Hardwired or NEMA 14-50 plug? What breaker/wire size?
- ☐ How long is the wire run, and is trenching or drywall repair included?
- ☐ How soon can you start, and how long until final inspection?
- ☐ What warranty do you offer on workmanship?
- ☐ Are you approved for my utility’s rebate program?
- ☐ If my automaker recommends an installer, can I compare your quote against theirs?
Red flags: no license number, cash-only, “no permit needed” for a new 240V circuit, no written quote.
